Daniel Island’s master plan has been studied by developers and planners from around the country and recognized with some of the industry’s top awards:

As Daniel Island has grown, it has become a more significant part of the Charleston economy and culture. Daniel Island is a residential community located within the city limited of Charleston, SC. It was annexed back 1991 and development started just 20 years ago. It currently is home to approximately 15,000 residents and another 8,000 employees who work on the island.

Recent development has been brisk, with new national chains and franchises looking to open a location on the island. “D.I.” – as locals refer – has been recognized for its innovative master plan, top ranked recreational facilities and regional and international events. Daniel Island residents have demonstrated a willingness to pay a premium for lifestyle experiences that feed their curiosity and heighten their passions.

Another major factor in the growth of Daniel Island was the completion of Interstate 526 – the “Mark Clark Expressway”. Approximately 80,000 vehicles per day travel on this major thoroughfare. Downtown Charleston can be reached in 22 minutes; the CHS International Airport can be 18 minutes away.

The road is a loop around Charleston that starts on the Southside of Mt. Pleasant and terminates at Highway 17 in West Ashley. The expressway connects Daniel Island to North Charleston to the West, and Mt. Pleasant and the beaches to the East. This easy connection to Mt. Pleasant is vitally important as the Town of Mt. Pleasant has become the major bedroom community for Charleston.
